Women's Team Badlav Ki Aur has been working to improve the status of rural Indian women since 2007, and it received its designation as a registered non-profit organization in August of 2009. Its current working area is District Kangra of Himachal Pradesh. The team serves seven villages at present and is making plans to expand its network to include 32 new villages. It's target age group is 13-35. The founders of the women's team were convicted from personal experiences that violence and gender discrimination against women were increasing day by day. They identified the patriarchal system as a root cause and wanted to raise their voices in support of gender equality. By educating and empowering young village women, they are now taking action to reverse trends of female infanticide and neglect. In an atmosphere in which women are often viewed as a liability instead of an asset, they are seeking to make practical improvements in the status of women and in their access to resources. With those goals in mind, they created Badlav Ki Aur, which translates to "Women Toward Change."
In order to see women and girls attain equality with their male counterparts, the women's team believes that education is of primary importance. Only after women become knowledgeable and can identify the discrimination against them will they be able to counteract gender injustices. Thus, the organization seeks to provide technical skills and other relevant training to young village women.
